Dani Pedrosa has won the Spanish MotoGP at Jerez after keeping his Repsol Honda just out of reach of team-mate Marc Marquez throughout the 27 laps. Marc Marquez had to settle in the second position. Jorge Lorenzo celebrated his first podium with Ducati in third, ahead of rookie Johann Zarco, who fought his way through the field brilliantly in the early laps.
Valentino Rossi and Maverick Vinales couldn't match the pace at the front, with Rossi dropping down the order with tyre issues in the closing stages. Nevertheless, Rossi still leads the world championship standings.
The early laps saw a spate of falls, including Cal Crutchlow and Pol Espargaro, plus Jack Miller and Alvaro Bautista, who had a scuffle in the gravel trap. Suzuki test rider Takuya Tsuda was replacing the injured Alex Rins.
