Two wins in two races put Andrea Dovizioso closer to the leader Maverick Vinales. The gap is cut down only to 7 points, Vinales only managing a 10th place finish.
Mr. Consistent, Dani Pedrosa got another podium finish under his belt, with Marc Marquez completing the podium at second place. He crashed a lot during his practice runs, but managed to get hold of the slippery conditions in the Catalunya GP, and held on to his position. Dovizioso said that it was a very difficult weekend for everyone with the racers facing problems on managing the track and the temperature. Valentino Rossi had an evening to forget, finishing 8th. The Marquez brothers had a good weekend with younger brother Alex Marquez winning his Moto 2 race, and Joan Mir finished first in Moto 3.
The start saw a scary incident between Danilo Petrucci and Marquez, which was being investigated by Race Direction. Petrucci fell from fifth in the closing stages. Bradley Smith missed the race due to a finger injury on Saturday, while Sylvain Guintoli was again replacing injured rookie Alex Rins at Suzuki. The next race is scheduled for June 25, 2017 at the TT circuit in Netherlands.
