Anti-Lock Braking System or ABS is a safety equipment which avoids the locking up of wheels and hence, protects the rider and pillion in case of an emergency or panic braking. With an alarming increase in the number of casualties in case of two wheeler accidents, the Government of India has made ABS mandatory on all new two-wheelers having an engine displacement of 125cc and above starting April 2018.

Apache RTR 180 is the most affordable bike in the country to offer an ABS. The bike is one of the first motorcycles in India to offer the said safety equipment. Powering the bike is a 177cc, single cylinder engine mated to a five-speed gearbox, churning out 17 hp of power and 15.5 Nm of torque. The Gixxer SF is also in the list of most affordable bikes currently on sale in India that comes with ABS. It is also the most affordable full faired bike and the only one under the Rs 1 lakh mark. The Suzuki Gixxer SF is powered by a 155cc, single cylinder engine mated to a five-speed transmission, developing 14.6 hp of power and 14 Nm of torque. The bike gets a full digital instrumentation, LED tail lamp and split rear body grab rails. The Suzuki Gixxer SF ABS is available from Rs 96386.*
The Suzuki Intruder 150 cruiser is the newest of the lot and thankfully, the manufacturer has added an ABS to this bike at a not-so-high price point. The motorcycle gets its power from the same 155cc engine that runs the company’s Gixxer twins. The carbureted motor is good for shedding out 14.6 hp of power and 14 Nm of torque. The salient features of the bike include a laid back styling inspired from the high-spec Intruder 1800 along with LED tail lamp and positioning lamp upfront. The Suzuki Intruder 150 is available at a starting price of Rs.1.07 lakhs *.
The Pulsar NS200 has recently received an update with an ABS and hence, is now in sync with the Government’s April 2018 mission. The bike comes powered by a 199.5cc, liquid-cooled engine mated to a five-speed transmission set up. The mill is good for developing power and torque of 23 hp and 18 Nm respectively. The bike gets aggressive streetfighter styling and features dual disc brakes with sporty split step seats. The Bajaj Pulsar NS200 ABS is available for sale at a price of Rs 1.18 lakh*.
The RS 200 is the first ever Pulsar to receive an ABS by Bajaj Auto. Launched back in the year 2015, the Bajaj Pulsar RS 200 gets its power from a 199.5cc, liquid-cooled engine mated to a five-speed transmission system, generating 24 hp of power and 18.6 Nm of torque. The only full-faired Pulsar gets twin projector headlamps, digital analog instrument cluster, split step up seats and LED turning winkers. The Bajaj Pulsar RS200 ABS is currently available at the company's dealerships across India at a price of Rs 1.37 lakhs*
Due to Government norms, one can now buy ABS equipped motorcycles at affordable price. While the unit can avoid a large number of mishaps, we would like to see all manufacturers to be able to assist their new vehicles with ABS by the said timeline.
