Electric motorcycles have come a long way. With the government's decision to go electric to curb the rising levels of pollution, many Indian manufacturers have come up with various models and designs.

 
Here are some of the electric motorcycles in India. (*All prices Ex-showroom, Delhi)
 
1. Tork T6X

The Tork T6X covers an approx. range of 100km on  full charge and gets power from a 6kW motor that produces 27Nm of torque. The T6X was built from scratch and the company, a startup from Bangalore, claims that the Tork T6X can be charged up to 80 percent in 60 minutes. It is priced at Rs. 1,25000*.
 
 
2. Okinawa Praise E-Scooter

Okianawa Praise is powered by a 72 Volt/45Ah lead-acid battery that is good enough for 3.5bhp power and a massive 40Nm of peak torque. It comes with features like Anti-theft function, keyless start option, remote locking, a location tracker device called ‘Find My Scooter’, a mobile charging point and E-ABS (Electronic Assisted Braking System). The company claims that it can run 170-200 km in a single charge. It is priced at Rs.59889*.
 
 
3. Hero Electric Photon

Hero Electric Photon is the most powerful offering by the manufacturer and comes with two riding modes — Economy and Power. The Photon comes with a range of 50km in Power mode whereas on Economy mode, the scooter can travel 80km on a single charge. Standard features include a polycarbonate headlamp, telescopic front forks, and a disc brake for the front. The Hero Electric Photon requires a valid driver’s licence and registration to be used on the road. It is priced at Rs. 55290*.

4. Yo EXL

Yobykes Yo EXL is an electric scooter that comes with a VRLA 40Ah battery and gets its powerful from 1800W motor under its body panels. It comes with an automatic gearbox and uses 10 inch tyres for both front as well as rear wheel. It is priced at Rs. 50171*.

The Yo Spark is one of the compact, city-friendly, electric scooters from Yo Bykes India. The Yo Spark, an electric two-wheeler offers superior riding range, performance and good handling compared to other vehicles in its category. The Spark is powered by a 900W electric motor which enables it to hit a top speed of 45kmph and a range of 60km. It has a charging time of 6 to 8 hours. It gets two modes for riding- power and economy. It is priced at Rs. 46594*.
 
 
6. Avon E-scoot

The Avon E-Scoot, a top line scooter is also the best looking scooter in Avon’s inventory. It gets fancy and shiny designer alloy wheels and an aerodynamic look. The large seat can accommodate two as it carries  a load of 120 kgs. The E-Scoot is powered by a 20 AH battery which delivers a range of approx. 65 kms and can be fully recharged in 6-8 hrs. A powerful 250W  motor makes it reach speeds of up to 24 kmph while the drum brakes up front and at the rear are capable to reducing that to zero quite quickly. It comes at starting price of Rs.45000*.

7. Hero Electric Cruz L1

Hero Electric Cruz,  features a only a 250watt electric motor, but comes with telescopic front forks and an advanced throttle mechanism that helps in quick acceleration. The Cruz also features a large storage section and can travel 70km on a single charge. The Cruz, owing to its small engine, need not be registered by the RTO, nor does it require a licence. It is priced at Rs. 43790*.
 
 
8. Hero Electric Optima Plus

The Hero Electric Optima Plus draws power from an electric motor that develops less than 250watt of power and has a range of around 70km on a full charge. The battery takes about six to eight hours to charge fully, and since the battery output is low, the scooter does not need registration or a licence. It is priced at Rs. 42190*.
 
 
9. Yo Xplor

Yo Xplor comes with multi-reflector head lamp and a telescopic suspension in the front. It features a digital odometer with trip switch and displays power mode from 35 to 55 kmph, and economy mode from 30 to 35 kmph. The scooter is powered by a 250W motor and a 33 Ah VRLA battery. The company claims that this battery takes six to eight hours for a complete charge and the scooter can run for 105 to 110kms on a single charge. It is priced at Rs. 38978*.
 
 



10. Yo Electron ER

The Yo Electron ER is an electric scooter that is part of  Gujarat-based electric two-wheeler maker’s range. It features a light-weight design and is similar to its petrol powered counterparts. The Yo Electron ER is powered by a 250w hub motor that has a range of approx. 70km with a top speed of 25kmph. The hub motor is given power through a 24Ah battery that requires 6-8 hours of charging time. It is priced at Rs. 36937*.

 

Conclusion

India is participating in a very ambitious goal of increasing access to clean energy sources that also incorporates government’s plans to promote electric vehicles as a mode of transport which are pollution free. We hope to see more and more manufacturers coming up with electric bikes soon.
