Lambretta International has announced that it will launch an electric scooter in India at the Auto Expo 2020. While that is some time away, the company is finalising its plans of setting up a manufacturing facility in Mumbai. This facility will manufacture Lambretta scooters for the Indian market as well as serve as a production hub for Asian and African markets. For this venture, Lambretta International has partnered with Lohia Auto and Bird Group.
While the specifications of the upcoming Lambretta electric scooter are yet to be revealed, it is currently being developed in Milan, Italy. When launched, the electric Lambretta will rival the Vespa Elettrica. Apart from the electric scooter, a steel bodied Super Lambretta is also being developed specially for the Indian market. This scooter will be larger in size than Lambretta's existing models, including the V50, V125 and V200.
The scooters carry an old-school design but have modern features like all-LED lighting, digital instrument consoles and front and rear disc brakes with ABS. Engine options range from a 49.5cc, 124.7cc and 169cc air-cooled motor with either a carburettor or fuel injection. Lambretta is expected to launch its sell scooters in India by 2020.
Closely following its main competitor Vespa, Lambretta International will launch the new Lambretta Electric prototype on the 15th Auto Expo of 6-9 February 2020. The Italian-Swiss multinational additionally announces the development of a steel Super Lambretta specially designed for the Indian market.
