Intense qualifying sessions in the Adriatic sunshine saw The championship leaders of the Moto2 and Moto3 world championship take complete control of the sessions with blisteringly fast laps. Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Brad Binder takes pole in Moto3, while Ajo Motorsport’s Johann Zarco takes pole in the intermediate class.
Moto3’s qualifying session saw Brad Binder hitting the top of the timesheets at the last minute of the session after Jorge Navarro (Estrella Galicia Honda), Enea Bastianini (Gresini Racing) an Nicolo Bulega (Sky racing VR46) hit the top of the timing screens one after the other. Binder took pole with a 1:42.398,0.150 seconds quicker than Enea Bastianini and 0.233 secs quicker than Niccolo Bulega.
Aspar Mahindra’s Jorge Martin withdrew from the race after fracturing a bone in his right foot in a crash in FP3. Francesco Bagnaia will start from 25th after being hindered by traffic on his flying laps.
Moto2 saw Johann Zarco ending Idemitsu Honda’s Takaaki Nakagami’s dominance by taking top spot in qualifying. Nakagami had previously topped in all Free practice sessions and missed out on top spot by a whisker – 0.073 seconds, eventually starting from second on the grid. He will be joined by VR46 academy rider and Forward racing’s Lorenzo Baldassarri, who put up an impressive performance in front of his home crowd and start from the front row.
Federal Oil Gresini’s Sam Lowes leads row 2 ahead of Estrella Galicia Marc VDS’ Franco Morbidelli and British GP winner Tom Luthi. Championship contender Alex Rins will be starting from the middle of the third row from 8th.
