Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650, unveiled at 2017 EICMA and later previewed at the 2017 Rider Mania in India, are still under development. That said, the motorcycles are in their final stages of development in order to ensure that the quality standards are on par with its competitors. Initially, Royal Enfield did mention that the 650cc twins will enter international markets before coming to India. But we expect to see the motorcycles in India anytime between September-October 2018.
The company is also ensuring that their distribution network and production capacity is sorted well in advance in order to avoid any delays in customer delivery and availability of vehicles. Both motorcycles will be powered by the Chennai-based manufacturer’s brand new 650cc, parallel-twin, oil-cooled engines developed from the ground up. This engine produces 47.7PS of power and 52Nm of torque, with fuel injection as standard.
The 6-speed gearbox will be the first seen on any Royal Enfield. Both motorcycles share the same underpinnings as well. These include 41mm telescopic front forks, rear coil springs, a 320mm front disc and a 240mm rear disc (with ABS as standard). Both motorcycles are expected to be priced between Rs 3-3.5 lakh (Ex-showroom Delhi).
