Updated KTM Super Duke GT spotted during tests

KTM 1290 Super Duke GT undergoing testing of a new front end, as well as emissions and noise testing was spotted testing. Amid all the layers of spray paint, gaffer tape, sensors, boxes and tasselled textile jackets are a complete new headlight unit, new screen and TFT dash that all bear more than a passing resemblance to the rest of the updated KTM family.

The love-it-or-loathe-it headlight borrows heavily from the styling of the Super Duke R, although the one fitted to this test mule is more bulbous and protrudes further, too. The screen, meanwhile, looks to have a broader spread of deflection, and to be mounted slightly higher. These changes will significantly affect airflow, and how the wind hits the rider, and the test rider’s jacket and much of the measuring equipment fitted to the bike, is concerned with understanding these changes.

Also clearly visible in the pictures is a huge new TFT dash – or at least the shape of one – which is likely to be very similar to that fitted on the Super Adventure S. On this test mule it’s actually a prototyped dummy, but the real thing is much like looking at an iPad through a pair of binoculars. The handguards are also new –while lever-protectors have been in the accessories catalogue since launch. It’s a logical step forward for this aggressive sports-tourer. Other deflectors and sections of bodywork have also changed in shape, while many elements are clearly 3D printed rapid prototype parts undergoing evaluation.
