Yamaha R15 v3.0 was first showcased in Indonesia in January this year. Before the entry-level sports motorcycle from the Japanese brand comes to India, it has been showcased at Vietnam Motorcycle Show. The new R15 has been a given an array of upgrades from cosmetic to mechanical. The new design is much more sportier, and the engine has been equipped with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) technology, which Yamaha say helps provide better grunt at low engine speeds.
The R15 v3.0 will come with a new 155cc liquid cooled engine that produces 17 hp and 14.7 Nm, and is paired to a six-speed gearbox. As per the company, the engine of the upcoming motorcycle will get forged piston and DiASil (Die-cast Aluminium Silicon) cylinder that is said to be more durable while being lightweight over a cylinder that used conventional methods. The new model will also be more fuel efficient compared to the outgoing motorcycle.
The 2017 R15 will receive a number of visual changes which include a slimmer set of LED headlamps as well as LED tail lamps, along with a fully digital instrument cluster, rev limiter light and gear position indicator. The fuel tank in the 2017 R15 gets 11-litre capacity, lower by one litre. Colour options include Racing Blue, Matte Black and Matte Red. It is exected to hit Indian roads by this year end and will be priced around Rs 1.30 lakh (Ex-showroom).
